Toyota Visit to Hutchinson Recognises World-Class Facility
A recent Toyota visit to Hutchinson gave our team the opportunity to share the progress being made across our facility.
We were proud to welcome Paul Blahyj, Group Leader Senior at the Toyota Lean Management Centre, Toyota Motor Manufacturing UK.
Paul, who was also named as one of The Manufacturer Top 100 2025, spent time touring the site, meeting the team and learning more about our approach to safety and continuous improvement.
During the visit, he described Hutchinson as a “world-class facility”.
That recognition meant a lot to everyone involved.

Learning From Toyota
Last year, members of the Hutchinson team visited Toyota’s Derby facility.
During the visit, they saw Toyota’s Safety Dojo in action. This is a dedicated training area designed to help employees learn about workplace safety, standards and best practice.
The team returned to Hutchinson with more than notes and ideas.
They took action.
Rather than copying Toyota’s approach exactly, they adapted the concept to suit our own shop floor, our people and the needs of our business.
The result was a practical training area that supports our ongoing commitment to safety and high standards.

Turning Ideas Into Action
One of the highlights of the Toyota visit to Hutchinson was the opportunity to show how our team had turned inspiration into something practical.
That is the part of the project we are most proud of.
Continuous improvement is not simply about visiting another organisation and discussing what they do well.
It is about asking what can be learned, how it can be applied and what will make a real difference to your own people.
Our team showed the confidence, curiosity and drive to learn from a world-class organisation and create something that works for Hutchinson.
They saw an opportunity, took ownership and made it happen.

What Continuous Improvement Looks Like
Continuous improvement does not always involve major transformation.
Often, it begins with small steps:
- Learning from others
- Being open to new ideas
- Improving existing processes
- Giving people the confidence to take ownership
- Turning ideas into action
The development of our Safety Dojo is a strong example of this approach.
It supports safer working practices, encourages consistency and gives our people a practical environment in which to develop their knowledge.

Recognition for the Team
Hearing our facility described as world-class was a proud moment.
However, the recognition belongs to the people behind it.
Our technology, systems and facilities continue to develop, but it is the attitude of our team that drives real progress.
Their willingness to learn, challenge existing ways of working and take responsibility for improvement is what moves the business forward.
Continuing to Learn and Improve
A huge thank you to Paul and the wider Toyota team for sharing their knowledge, welcoming our team to Derby and taking the time to visit Hutchinson.
The Toyota visit to Hutchinson was a valuable opportunity to reflect on how far we have come and where we can continue to improve.
We are proud of the progress being made across our facility, but we also know that continuous improvement never stops.
There will always be more to learn, more opportunities to explore and more ways to improve.
We are proud of our facility.
But, as always, it is the people behind it who make the difference.
