Challenge

Caterpillar approached us with a unique challenge: designing a custom 13-meter-long, 300mm-high bunded diesel tank for a data centre with severe access restrictions. The tank needed to be both structurally sound and compliant with stringent regulatory standards. This project required not only innovative engineering solutions but also a rapid turnaround to meet tight deadlines. The primary obstacle was ensuring the tank's integrity over such an unusual length and height while navigating the logistical hurdles posed by the site constraints.

Solution

Our team tackled this challenge head-on by employing a combination of advanced design techniques and finite element analysis (FEA) to ensure structural integrity. We innovated with the inclusion of structural beams within the tank, which provided the necessary support without compromising the design's compact form factor.
