David’s Story

David is 26, has been working for the company for only 5 months. He is part of the welding team. He left school, went to tech to do a National Diploma in Construction, but with no idea of what he would like to do, he took the first job he found at a PVC company and spent 6 years there. He started to realize he wanted more but still wasn’t sure what that was. He liked working with his hands and luckily for us spotted our Welding Academy open day on Facebook and decided to come along. He enjoyed getting a chance to try welding on the day, excited, he quickly applied for a place at the welding academy.

Having successfully passed all the interviews, which involved a weld test and a test on a set of drawings, David started in one of the training bays. Experts were brought in from Teach Weld NI, David passed all the tests and is now coded to a standard.

David describes himself as happy since he keeps learning every day. He explained, “I’m only here 5 months and now I’m a coded welder with a skill and I’m still learning everyday. They look after you really well and Mark always stops by for a chat too. It’s been a really good move for me.”

Here at Hutchinson, all our employees may be different but they have one thing in common : passion for their work.
